Joe Chiccarelli
Joe Chiccarelli is a Grammy-nominated producer, mixer, and engineer based in Los Angeles with a career spanning rock, alternative, Latin, and jazz music across four decades. He has earned 12 Grammy nominations, including Producer of the Year.
Originally from Boston, Chiccarelli moved to Los Angeles in the 1980s and began his career at Cherokee Studios in Hollywood, where he had his first big break engineering Frank Zappa’s gold-certified Sheik Yerbouti. He went on to produce, engineer, and mix projects through the ’80s and ’90s for artists including American Music Club, Hole, Cracker, Tori Amos, Bon Jovi, Elton John, and Oingo Boingo. His career has also included work as Music Supervisor and Producer on film and TV projects such as Robert Altman’s Gun series, Suicide Kings, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Rocky V.
His later work became synonymous with defining records in modern rock and alternative: The White Stripes’ Grammy-winning Icky Thump, The Raconteurs’ Grammy-winning Consolers of the Lonely, The Strokes’ Angles, Spoon’s They Want My Soul, Jason Mraz’s Love Is A Four Letter Word, Beck, U2, Young the Giant, Manchester Orchestra, Weezer, and Alanis Morissette, among others.
In Latin music, Chiccarelli has earned 7 Latin Grammy nominations for his work with Juanes, Julieta Venegas, Café Tacuba, Bajofondo, and Ely Guerra. His credits extend into jazz as well, with artists including Kurt Elling, Pink Martini, Gato Barbieri, Arturo Sandoval, and Jamie Cullum. He works primarily from his studio at Sunset Sound Recorders and has upcoming projects with Taylor Janzen, Little Dragon, Didirri, Duncan Laurence, and The Jacks.
